Week 3:

Focusing on Christ for Physical Discipline and Healthy Living

Theme Focus: Honoring God through our bodies by cultivating disciplined, healthy, and Christ-centered lifestyles.

Key Scriptures:

1 Corinthians 6:19–20 – “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost… therefore glorify God in your body…”

3 John 1:2 – “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”

Proverbs 3:7–8 – “Fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.”

1 Corinthians 9:27 – “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection…”

God is deeply interested in our physical well-being. Healthy living is not separate from our spiritual life—it is a reflection of it. When we focus on Christ, it influences how we treat our bodies, the choices we make, and the discipline we maintain.

In 1 Corinthians 6:19–20, the Bible reminds us that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. This means our physical body is sacred and should be treated with honor and care. Neglect, abuse, or unhealthy habits contradict the life God desires for us. Focusing on Christ leads us to respect and properly manage our bodies.

3 John 1:2 reveals God’s desire for us to prosper in health just as our soul prospers. This shows a connection between spiritual and physical well-being. When your spiritual life is in order, it should positively influence your physical habits—your diet, rest, and lifestyle.

In Proverbs 3:7–8, reverence for God brings health to the body. When we walk in obedience and avoid harmful practices, we position ourselves for divine health. Healthy living is not only about exercise or diet—it is also about living a life that honors God.

1 Corinthians 9:27 emphasizes discipline. Apostle Paul speaks of bringing his body under control. This teaches us that physical health requires intentional effort. Laziness, excess, and lack of control can hinder both our physical and spiritual effectiveness.

Practical Applications

Eat Wisely: Choose nourishing foods and avoid excess or harmful consumption.

Exercise Regularly: Keep your body active as a way of maintaining strength and energy.

Rest Adequately: Prioritize proper sleep and avoid burnout.

Avoid Harmful Habits: Stay away from substances and behaviors that damage your body.

Practice Self-Control: Develop discipline in eating, resting, and daily routines.

Spiritual Outcome

As you focus on Christ in your physical life, you will experience:

Increased strength and energy

Greater self-discipline

Improved overall health

A body that supports your divine assignment

Prayer Focus

“Lord Jesus, I dedicate my body to You. Help me to honor You through my lifestyle choices. Give me the discipline to care for my body and the wisdom to live in good health. Let my body be a vessel that glorifies You in all I do. Amen.”
